• The Drakensberg Mountains are the highest in SA and range up to 3482m in height. The mountain range stretches over an area of 5000km².
• The Cango Caves near Oudtshoorn are the largest caves in SA.
• The Worlds highest Bungee Jump is located at the Bloukrans Bridge in the Eastern Cape. It has a freefall of 180m.
• The Worlds deepest mines are situated in the Witwatersrand region of SA. The depth exceeds 3700m below the surface.
• The deepest cave in SA is also the largest natural freshwater cave in the World. It is situated in the Northern Cape near Kuruman. It is 282m deep.
• The most southerly point in SA and Africa is Cape Agulhas.
• The oldest known and largest crater on Earth is situated in Vredefort and is said to be 2.02 billion years old. An estimate of the original size is around 300km in diameter.
• Tiffendel Ski Resort in the Eastern Cape is South Africa’s only ski resort. It is situated on Ben McDhui peak which is the highest peak in the Cape Province.
• The oldest wine route in South Africa is the Stellenbosch Wine Route, established in 1971.
